Well, hello! Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to Herb Geek. This is a venue for exploring ideas, promoting knowledge, and sharing experiences on all aspects of the herbal industry in its broadest form. It’s a place where student, professional, and hobby herbalists can geek out on all things related to herbs. Historically the term geek was used to describe freaks in circus side shows. Today the word geek refers to a person who is interested in technology and chooses to pursue skill and imagination over popularity and social acceptance. Geeks enjoy things that are outside of the mainstream spectrum, and by this explanation our site is well defined by the word. Please relax, kick back, have a cup of tea, and make yourself at home.
Herb Geek writers are passionate about what they do, creative with how they do it, and bold enough to tell the world all about it. They enjoying “geeking out” about all things related to herbs, and always seize an opportunity to learn more about what they love. If this sounds like you, then please join the conversation! Herb Geek is always looking for new writers to contribute fresh, honest, and original articles. Our goal is to provide a venue for herbalists to share their knowledge, opinions, thoughts, and experiences about life as an herbalist. The Founder: Mélanie Pulla
I started Herb Geek in the fall of 2011, right after the birth of my sweet little boy, and right before I decided to sell my retail store. In a moment of clarity, I asked myself: “Why am I not making my living as a practicing herbalist?” I had attended two great herb schools, completed a BSc in Alternative Medicine, and worked as a practitioner’s assistant several times over. Certainly I couldn’t be more ready.
Yet I found myself without a network of practicing herbalists, and with no clear direction of where to start, or how to launch something original – something that would add a new voice to the herb world. I reached out to my former herbal classmates, only to realize that very few of them were actually making their living through herbal medicine – even though we had all attended herb school with the same dreams and aspirations of being career herbalists. I found myself asking: “Why is it so hard to make a living as an herbalist?” and “How do I forge my own path and add something of value to the herbal community?”
With this in mind, I launched Herb Geek as a way to connect with other herbalists who might feel the same way. I’ve since discovered a thriving network of herbalists with an abundance of knowledge, energy, and vitality. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reaching out to more and more of these herbalists with the intention of building this site as a venue for all members of the herbal community and general public to enjoy. Thank-you for reading, sharing, and joining the conversation!
