I recently had the opportunity to chat with the very talented Dr. Ann Armbrecht, anthropologist, author, and co-creator of the film Numen: The Healing Power of Plants. Our discussion touched on subjects such as current health paradigms, the ethics of herbal medicine, and the place where herbalism and business intersect.
I’ve been very motivated to write about the importance of herbal ethics, particularly because it’s a nuanced and multi-faceted issue with answers that are often ambiguous to the point of being elusive. And perhaps this elusiveness is the reason why discussing ethics so often gets neglected. Yet I do feel that establishing cohesive herbal ethics is of paramount importance in order for the field of herbal medicine to continue to thrive.
This discussion is only a starting point – a segway into what I hope will become a thoughtful and meaningful discussion on the subject. Please join the conversation and share your thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
